Good Morning!

I slept pretty good last night. I’m a little sore and had a couple of scares, but nothing I couldn’t handle or a little bit of riding won’t shake off.

The scare: Last night, after it was really dark and long after I had gone to sleep, I awoke to a distant light shining in my general direction and someone talking over a loudspeaker. I’m pretty sure they said something like “This is not a place for sleeping.” I didn’t see any flashing lights, but I’m pretty sure that it was a police officer, although it could have been a park ranger or something similar. Luckily enough fo me, there was a car inbetween the officer and myself, and once it left, so did he. I really don’t think it was all that big of a deal because from the way I saw things (which could be very off, I definitely wasn’t more than 1/2 awake) the officer didn’t even enter the parking lot, which is ungated. Still that was enough of a scare that for the rest of the night any time a car drove by that was loud enough to wake me, I’d sit up, look around to make sure this were still ok, and then go back to sleep.

Today looks like its goig to be a great day. I pulled all my stuff out of the woods onto the pavement to try and dry things from the dew last night before I put them away. Once I finish this post, I’m going to make myself a bowl of cold oatmeal (I ditched my stove at home to try ad save weight), give my dad a call to wish him a Happy Father’s Day, pack up my stuff, and head out.

Today’s goal is somewhere just over the NY state boarder (Millerton/Pine Plains area) .

Barkhamsted Reservoir

Well I made it past Granby and I’m at Barkhamsted Reservoir in Pleasant Valley. I was debating on staying here or at a state campground about 3 miles away from here, but after a call to find out how much a site costed there, and finding out there were no more sites available, the decision became pretty easy. This is a pretty nice spot (its scenic, has well cut grass, etc.), but the best spot to keep out of sight is still fairly noticible and bound to be buggy tonight. I guess we’ll know in the morning just how stealthy I am. But for now, it’s time to contaminate so nice peoples drinking water.

Distance traveled (per Evan’s requeat):
– Today: 53.3 miles in 4h:33m of riding time
– Trip: 270.0 miles (exactly!)

Checkpoint!!

I made it! Right now I’m sitting outside of Bradley International Aitport in Windsor Locks, CT. This is the end of my first set of maps, and the begining of the second, which will take me all the way to Norristown, PA.

There are a bunch of things happening in early July that I’m planning on comming back for so I really only have about 10 days of riding ahead of me (plus a few more to get back, which I still need to figure out how to do). If I keep with the plan of 50 miles per day, it will take me 6-7 days to get to Norristown (~320 miles from here). Add in a rest day, and all of my time is pretty much taken up, so this is my goal for this section of the trip. I was hoping to make it to DC, but that looks a bit ambitious, being a little more than 200 miles past Norristown. But is there are lots of downhills and good weather it could be a possibility (althought I’m not going to push it since I would probably only just make it there, and not have any time to be a torrist before I had to come back).

Goal for tonight: Granby.
